Remote parts of Cumbria could soon see a boost in mobile phone signals after a deal was signed to boost signal strength without impacting the landscape. The deal has been welcomed by South Lakes MP Tim Farron.

Tim has welcomed the news of the agreement between National Parks England and the Mobile Operators Association. The deal confirms a shared objective of improving signal coverage, but with an understanding that pristine landscapes must not be spoiled. It sets out a to-do list which will bring operators and park bosses together at the earliest stage of a plan, noting that mobile phone operators will be open to unusual and innovative solutions to problems.

Tim said: "This agreement is welcomed news. For far too long rural communities have been treated like second class citizens when it comes to mobile and broadband connectivity. It is time this digital divide is closed, so let's hope this deal ensures better coverage where it is needed most.

"I will be pressing hard to make sure that Cumbria is high up the list to have our mobile connectivity improved."
