South Lakes MP Tim Farron has said Mintfest is still going strong after news that a lack of cash has forced organisers to put Lakes Alive on hold.

The popular performance events drew huge crowds at venues across Cumbria.

Julie Tait, of Kendal Arts International, told the Cumbria Live (http://www.cumbrialive.co.uk/home/festival-boss-we-ve-put-lakes-alive-on-hold-1.1112660#) website that Mintfest, the flagship event, remained good and strong and would still proceed. But the shows that have toured Cumbria for the last few summers will not be going ahead this year.

Tim said: "Mintfest is the highlight of the cultural calendar in South Lakeland. I'm delighted that South Lakeland District Council are continuing to support it. The event is better and better every year and I hope that it will keep wowing local crowds and bringing a boost to the local economy."
