Massive Shortfall In Cumbria Pothole Funding

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has criticised the government for neglecting Cumbria's roads, as the latest government figures show that cash to fix our roads has been slashed by almost £1million.

This cut comes despite the fact that the Chancellor George Osborne promised an extra 'Pothole Fund'. Even with this cash, it doesn't plug the gap and Cumbria will lose out.

The data shows that in Cumbria, even once this additional money is taken into account, the total amount of pothole maintenance funding for the 2016/17 year has been cut by £810,000 relative to the previous year.

Cumbria has also received Flood Recovery Funding, however this is to repair flood damage.

Tim said: "Drivers in Cumbria will be all too aware of the dire state of some of our roads. The Chancellor is willing to talk the talk when it comes to fixing our roads, but the analysis shows that when it comes down to it he's simply not willing to provide the cash.

"Once again, there is a massive disconnect between what the government announces in press releases, and how much money Cumbria actually receives.

"The government needs to back up its rhetoric with action."
