Local councillor secures cheaper parking for workers in Grange
Local residents who work in Grange will soon be able to take advantage of cheaper parking in the town centre.
From April, a new 'early bird' rate will be available in the Hampsfell Road car park. Parking will cost just £1 a day for drivers who arrive in the car park before 9am.
The rate is in addition to the existing £1.20 a day charge at the Berners Close car park further out of the town centre.
Local councillor Eric Morrell has been pushing the council to introduce cheaper parking in Grange.
Eric said: "Given the lack of public transport locally, many workers are forced to drive into the town centre but find it difficult to afford to park all day in one of the council car parks.
"I'm hopeful this new deal will help workers, but also help local residents by reducing the number of commuters parking on residential streets near the town centre."
The new early-bird rate comes into operation from April, and the Lib Dem-run council are freezing all other parking charges for the seventh year running.
