Liberal Democrat councillor Mary Wilson is backing new plans for a new pedestrian footbridge in Cartmel.

It's hoped a new bridge will make it easier for people to walk from the Priory to the Square on the other side of the river.

The Environment Agency have agreed to plans for the footbridge following an intervention from local MP Tim Farron.

The bridge is one of the projects of the Township Initative which received £60,000 of funding from the council.

Mary said: "A new footbridge would make the environment much better for people walking around the village.

"I'm also delighted we finally got agreement from the Environment Agency for the bridge following the intervention of our MP Tim Farron.

"I'll continue working with the council to make sure that we get a bridge soon!"
