Local MP Tim Farron has praised Kendal Town Councillor Matt Severn for securing a lifesaving defibrillator for the Hallgarth estate.

Tim and Matt thanked John Pedder and local Lodge of the R.A.O.B. for their 'incredible and heartfelt' donation. John saw literature outlining Matt's ongoing campaign and offered to provide the lifesaving equipment. Matt is now asking for residents to come forward to let him know where it should be placed.
Tim has previously asked local businesses and councils to suggest public spaces which could house defibrillators. The plan is to purchase defibrillators that are fitted inside a secure metal box with key code access. Each box will then be placed outside community buildings and in town centres, so that if an emergency occurs the 999 service will give the caller the location of the nearest machine along with the key code. This means that treatment can be administered while an ambulance is on its way.

Tim commented: "Over the last few months Matt has been campaigning to bring a defibrillator to the Hallgarth estate. John saw the campaign and has made a wonderful donation. It will make a massive difference to local people. I cannot thank him enough."

Kendal Town Councillor Matt Severn said: "It's fantastic that we have been able to get this for our community and I'd like to thank John Pedder and the local R.O.A.B lodge for the donation. If it saves even one life, it will have been absolutely worth it. Our campaign win shows that the Lib Dems are the only party delivering action on healthcare."
