Lib Dems Gain Seat On Eden Council

5 Aug 2016

Lib Dem Leader and Cumbrian MP Tim Farron has congratulated new councillor Thomas Sheriff on his impressive by-election win last night.

Lib Dem candidate Thomas Sheriff managed to pull off an impressive victory, taking Alston Moor ward from the Conservatives following the resignation of the former Conservative councillor.

Thomas Sheriff won 54% of the vote, from a total of 556 votes cast. This win means the Lib Dems now have 8 councillors on Eden District Council.

Tim said: "My congratulations go to Thomas Sheriff, who will be a fantastic addition to the Lib Dem team on the council. He ran a great campaign and I'm sure will be a hard-working representative of his community.

"The Liberal Democrats are making gains in local elections across the country, as people are increasingly looking to us to provide a progressive alternative to the Tories and stand up for our communities."
