Kendal to Penrith bus safeguarded

South Lakes MP Tim Farron and Neil Hughes, the Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Penrith & the Border, have both welcomed the news that the 106 Penrith-Kendal bus has been safeguarded.

The timetable from 3 Nov 2014 will be operated by Reays. It will function in addition to the twice daily public service serving Kendal College from Penrith. The service is well used by students and shoppers. Tim and Neil have thanked Reays for their commitment to local residents.

The 106 Penrith - Tebay - Kendal service yesterday was registered officially with Cumbria County Council. It will operate Monday to Saturday commencing 3rd November 2014.

The only gap in provision now is for a peak-hour service outside school and college terms and Cumbria County Council transport officers are looking at how this might be provided. Tim and Neil will be working hard to make sure that happens.

This is the latest success in Tim's campaign to protect rural bus services, which he calls 'vital community lifelines'. He hopes to be able to build on his success of saving the 532 Cartmel Peninsula circular bus service a couple of weeks ago.

Over the last few weeks we have been working with bus companies and residents to try and protect these vital routes. I'd like to personally thank Reays for their commitment - this route is a lifeline for many people and I'm delighted at this fantastic news."

Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Penrith & the Border Neil Hughes added: "I've lobbied county officers ceaselessly since late last year to get this right. There are still one or two tweaks to be made, but the continuation of service that Tim and I promised residents we'd fight for now seems to be a reality."
