"It's a sign!" - Farron

19 Feb 2008

After campaigning for a sign before junction 37 on the M6, Tim Farron MP has received news from the Department for Transport that the Highways Agency are planning to place a signpost for the 'Western Dales'. This could be a huge benefit to tourism in the area and a brown sign here is long overdue.

Tim Farron wrote to both the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and the Highways Agency to press them for this sign in 2007. The key to the government's change of heart appears to have been a private meeting between Tim Farron and the Transport Minister, Tom Harris just before Christmas.

Tim Farron said:

"I am delighted with the decision of the Minister to consider the introduction of a sign at Junction 37 on the M6. This would bring more tourism business to the area, and will be of great benefit to Sedbergh, Dent and Garsdale. It is high time that the Cumbrian part of the Yorkshire Dales is properly signposted!"
