IPCC report into Poppi Worthington case published

3 Mar 2017

Commenting on the publication today (3rd March) of the IPCC report into the Poppi Worthington case, Tim said:

"This report sets out an unacceptable catalogue of failure by Cumbria Police, and is rightly damning. What happened to Poppi Worthington was tragic and sickening, but was made worse by the failings of Cumbria Police. The failure to take seriously the possibility of abuse meant that vital evidence and witness accounts were not collected at the time of the incident. What is worse, it also meant that Poppi's siblings were potentially put in danger through contact with their father despite medical experts raising serious concerns about Poppi's injuries. The police failed in their basic duties and let down Poppi and her siblings.

"Cumbria Police must continue to learn the lessons from this tragic case, so that no child ever has to face what Poppi went through."
