'Inadequate' care homes show need for social care investment - Farron

2 May 2017

Local MP Tim Farron has called for an urgent cash injection for our social care system, as a second care home in Kendal has been rated 'inadequate' in a month.

Kendal Care Home has been given a rating of 'inadequate' by Care Quality Commission inspectors, while Heron Hill Care Home was given the same rating at the end of last month. Tim has called for the CQC to intervene to restore standards at the homes.

As Lib Dem leader, Tim is proposing an immediate £2billion cash injection for social care, which would include more than £20million for social care in Cumbria.

Tim said: "It is extremely concerning that, within the space of a month, two care homes in Kendal have been rated inadequate. Both residents and their families will be concerned. CQC should intervene and help put right what is wrong at these homes.

"This is yet further evidence of the crisis faced by our woefully-underfunded care system.

"Our older people deserve to know that they will be cared for with dignity. That's why I've proposed a £2billion immediate rescue package to boost social care, including more than £20million for Cumbria.

"The hard working and caring people who work as carers deserve our support too, their lives are increasingly difficult as the funding situation gets worse."
