Local MP Tim Farron presented Grange Primary School with a prestigious award last week. Grange Primary School has successfully won 'Green Flag' status as part of the national schools 'eco awards'.

Schools are only given this award if they can prove real commitment towards becoming environmentally friendly.

Grange Primary School has been working for the last four years towards being an environmentally friendly school. Over this time the children have helped to implement various recycling schemes into school; created two willow domes to help make our school site more appealing; begun a gardening club and reduced the amount of waste the school creates.

This hard work has meant the school was able to apply for the Green Flag eco schools awards. On Wednesday 16th September Tim Farron visited school to present the Green Flag at a full school assembly. Tim was then given a tour of the school by some of the children, so that he could see their good work for himself.

Tim said, "The pupils, staff and governors at Grange Primary School have worked really hard to earn this award and it was a privilege to be able to make the presentation. The school has taken real action to improve the environment, including improving recycling, reducing energy use, composting and reducing waste. I was extremely impressed by everyone's commitment."

The school now aims to extend the hard work into the future and spread the message to the local community as well as the school community.
