Grange derailment report: Authorities must finally fix longstanding flooding problem, says MP

Commenting on today’s publication of the Rail Accident Investigation Branch’s report into the derailment of a train near Grange-over-Sands last year, local MP Tim Farron said: “The Chief Inspector of Rail Accidents makes it very clear that the failure of authorities and agencies to fix the long running flooding issue near Grange Golf Club has led to the lives of rail passengers and train crew being put at risk.
“For far too long, short term fixes have been prioritised rather than the serious investment we need to see to stop homes, farms and businesses being flooded.
“Today’s stark report simply has to be the moment where the Environment Agency, Natural England, the Marine Management Organisation, and all other involved authorities play their part to alleviate flooding from the River Winster.”
