Farron Welcomes Temporary A591 Solution For Students
A temporary solution to allow students to get to school across the A591 gap has been welcomed by Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron.
Cumbria County Council has built a temporary footpath and organised a shuttle bus, to enable students to continue to attend schools including Grasmere Primary School. Many pupils feared being cut off from their schools following the destruction of the A591 due to flooding caused by Storm Desmond.
Tim said: "It is a huge relief for both students and parents that a temporary solution has been found for those who have been cut off from their schools by the closure of the A591.
"The County Council, and in particular local county councillor Heidi Halliday, have shown an impressive sense of urgency and resolve in addressing this issue and finding a solution.
"What is now needed is for the government to show that same determination in finding a broader solution to get the road open again as soon as possible, in order to support local residents and businesses."
