Farron welcomes setting of General Election date
Tim Farron has welcomed the Prime Minister's decision to call a General Election for Thursday May 6th.
Tim said, "This is an exciting time. I know that local people will judge the candidates on what they have done for our community over the last five years and what real results they have achieved. I am proud that I have dealt with over 30,000 pieces of casework, helped to safeguard Westmorland General Hospital - including delivering a new cancer unit for our community - and made sure that 400 local families have a new and affordable roof over their head.
"The South Lakes has a stark choice ahead of it in this campaign. Labour will be a very distant third here. With just 267 votes separating myself and the Conservative last time, every vote will count. This is our chance to choose the best for our area, and to ensure that we get real change that brings fairness for the South Lakes and Britain as a whole."
Tim's three main pledges are to:
- fight to upgrade Westmorland General Hospital, bringing new acute services and a heart unit to our area;
- bring new well paid jobs and affordable homes to the South Lakes
- work as hard as our local MP during the next 5 years as he has in the last 5 years.
