Farron welcomes Outreach Post Office at Chapel Stile as "positive step"

26 May 2009

News that there will now be an outreach Post Office at Chapel Stile has been described by South Lakes Tim Farron as a "positive step forward" for the community. Mr Farron welcomed the announcement but reiterated his disappointment that residents in Langdale would continue to be deprived of a fully operational Post Office.

Commenting Mr Farron said:

"After more than six months without any kind of Post Office service since the branch at Elterwater closed, this is welcome news and a positive step forward for the community.

"Despite the good news that the Langdales will now have an outreach centre, the local residents are still without a fully operational Post Office, which remains a huge blow for the village and to the communities it served. Nevertheless, the local community deserve huge credit for their work in enabling a post office service to return.

"There was a huge amount of disappointment following the decision to close Elterwater Post Office. I'm hopeful that securing a Post Office outreach will bring us one step closer toward our long term goal of returning a fully functioning Post Office to Chapel Stile and Elterwater."
