Farron welcomes new car parking spaces at Oxenholme station

24 Mar 2009

MP Tim Farron has today welcomed the new car parking spaces at Oxenholme train station. Network Rail has extended the car park at the station to 129 places after much pressure from local residents and from Mr Farron. It is hoped that this move will bring relief to residents of Oxenholme village who are badly affected by the excessive overspill parking on nearby streets.

The county council is consulting on whether people wish to see yellow lines on the stretch of Oxenholme Road near to the station, and whether any knock-on effects would be felt at the top of Hayclose Road.

Tim says, "This issue has been a major problem for a long time and it has blighted the lives of people who live in the area.

"I am hoping that the extra parking at the station and the traffic controlling measures in surrounding roads will be able to solve this problem.

"We need to make sure that this eases the congestion through Oxenholme village and the surrounding area and that we don't just move the problem further down the road for other people to have to deal with."
