FARRON WELCOMES LOTTERY GRANTS FOR THE SOUTH LAKES

Local MP Tim Farron has welcomed the latest round lottery grants from the 'Big Lottery Fund Awards'.

A grand total of £51,556 has been awarded to six well-deserving local projects. Tim is extremely pleased as the majority of the money has been given to projects that work with young people.

St Mary's C of E Nursery andInfantsSchoolin Windermere has been awarded £7,137 for the creation of a sensory garden. This will help the children learn more about nature and the environment in both lessons and after school clubs.

The Arnside Youth Project received £6,848 to contribute towards its successful running which will include the creation of a website.

Cowran Training Limited near Ulverston will use their grant of £9,991 to create a horticultural work area. The money will also be used for further recruitment which would allow a wider range of outdoor training for young people.

The charity, MusicLinks Limited, have been given £7,580 to organise art and media workshops for young people outside mainstream education. There will also be opportunities to meet people who work in the media.

Chestnut Children's Community Events were awarded £10,000 to fund its gardening workshops for local schools, nurseries and community groups.

And finally, the community organisation, the Gowan Stop and Go Group in Staveley, will use the £10,000 they have received to install a photovoltaic system to ensure the public toilet remains available for the local community.

Tim said: "I am very happy that we have received these grants. It is great to see good work being recognised and given the praise it deserves. Without this money, the projects may not have been able to reach their true potential. I have no doubt that these projects will have a huge impact on our community."
