FARRON WELCOMES LOCAL COMMUNITY BROADBAND SCHEME

22 Aug 2011

South Lakes MP Tim Farron yesterday helped bring together community interest company NextGenUs and residents from Hutton Roof to discuss NextGenUs's proposal for a superfast broadband network in the Hutton Roof parish.

The meeting, held in the village hall and organised with the help of the parish council, was a great success. NextGenUs gave a short presentation, after which community members were given the opportunity to discuss the proposal in depth with the company. Tim set up the meeting as part of his campaign to get superfast broadband to everyone in the South Lakes area.

Speaking after the meeting, Tim said: "I am really pleased that we were able to organise this meeting, and feel that it was a huge success. We had a fantastic turnout, and I want to thank everyone who attended.

"My campaign to get superfast broadband into the South Lakes has now stepped up several gears, and it's really exciting to think that within the next six months to a year we could see some real, concrete results. High-speed internet access is absolutely essential to the long term economic and social well-being of our area."
