Farron welcomes investment in Green buses for Cumbria
Following this morning's announcement by Liberal Democrat Transport Minister, Norman Baker, Tim has welcome news that the Government will be investing an additional £11million in the Green Bus Fund.
The Green Bus Fund, which enables local councils and bus companies to buy low carbon buses has seen its investment increased by over 50% in round 3 from £20million to £31million. In this third round Cumbria will see £284,800 invested through Blueworks, which will go towards funding 4 new low Carbon buses for the county.
Commenting this morning Tim said: "Local bus services are the life blood of our communities and play a vital role as many people rely on them for transport. Following a massive campaign earlier this year to save services at the last minute this investment will help not only to keep rural bus services running at a time when the County Council is too busy playing politics, but will also help us in our efforts to protect the environment."
