Farron welcomes further funds for Hallgarth play area

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed a further £5,000 of funding for the play area on the Hallgarth estate in Kendal, and has thanked town councillor Matt Severn for helping to secure the funds.

The money - allocated at the Kendal Town Council meeting this week - will be added to £26,000 of funding already secured from South Lakeland District Council.

Last year the play equipment was removed from the play area on Acre Moss Lane after it was deemed unsafe.

Hallgarth councillor Rob Boden has started work consulting with local parents and young people. He produced a questionnaire and distributed this to parents at the Halloween party run by South Lakes Housing and at the Mother and Toddler group, and is talking to Young Cumbria about the plans.

Tim said: "This money is another step in bringing back the play equipment. I want to thank Matt for standing up at the council and earmarking these funds. I also want to thank Rob Boden for all his work consulting with local residents about the plans.

"I know how much the children on the estate missed the play area and speaking to parents, I know how valuable a facility it was. I'm pleased that we have added more funds to the pot to bring back the play equipment."

Town councillor Matt Severn added: "Providing proper play equipment is one of the most important things councils can do so I am delighted that the Town Council are joining with the district council to build a better Hallgarth so that kids can really enjoy themselves."
