South Lakes MP, Tim Farron has welcome a grant of £106,000 for the Kendal-based Manna House by the Homelessness Transition Fund to ensure that no-one spends more than 1 night sleeping rough on the streets.

The 'No Second Night Out' campaign is part of the £20 million independent fund set up to support the Government's rough sleeping strategy which has been piloted in London. It is designed to ensure that anyone who ends up on the streets gets help as quickly as possible so that they do not spend a second night sleeping rough on the streets.

South Lakeland is one of 19 communities across England to received funding to support their work with single adults who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes. They hope to help over 30 rough sleepers over the course of the project across South Lakeland.

Commenting this morning Tim said: "This is fantastic news for Manna House and for South Lakeland. We currently have a serious housing crisis in South Lakeland with a severe lack of affordable housing leading to an ever increasing homeless population.

"This funding will enable Manna House to target those who are most at risk and provide much needed support for the vulnerable particularly as we are facing yet another extremely cold winter over the coming months."
