South Lakes MP, Tim Farron, has welcomed an additional £26 million for the NHS in Cumbria - which will help improve the likelihood of radiotherapy treatment coming to Kendal. The money will also support key Government priorities such as support for carers' breaks, the Cancer Drugs Fund, investment in talking therapies for those with mental health conditions, and 4,200 extra health visitors.

With a new chemotherapy unit opening at Westmorland General Hospital in the next few weeks, this additional money is encouraging news as Tim steps up the next stage of his campaign, to see radiotherapy treatment brought to the hospital.

Commenting Tim said: "I am delighted that despite the difficult financial climate, we've won additional money to benefit patients here in South Lakeland. It is fantastic that Cumbria has received such an important boost in investment going straight to doctors, nurses and other frontline services.

"We have been campaigning for a many years for additional services to be brought to Westmorland General Hospital and I am very proud to have seen a new renal unit and mental health unit introduced as well as the upcoming opening of the chemotherapy unit.

"With the chemotherapy unit opening in the coming weeks this additional £26 million is a vital boost to our local health services and has given us the lift we need to press on with our campaign to bring radiotherapy to Westmorland General Hospital."
