FARRON WARNS CUMBRIA POLICE NOT TO SLASH SERVICES
Local MP Tim Farron has urged Cumbria Police not to compromise rural coverage in the wake of a freshly announced review of its current buildings.
The Police Authority and the constabulary are reviewing every police station and office in the county in a bid to save cash - and this has raised fears that some stations may be forced to close their doors.
Cumbria Police say that all buildings are being reviewed to make sure they provide value for money and meet the needs of the areas they cover. Local residents have expressed serious concerns that the review may mean the Police are only based in larger towns such as Kendal orCarlisle.
Tim commented: 'I am concerned that this review could have a major impact on our area. Whilst savings have to be made, it is vital that our rural communities don't lose their links to the police. Having a police presence nearby reassures local people and helps to keep crime down. I am calling on Cumbria Police Authority to ensure that current levels of service be maintained as far as possible.'
