Farron visits local school to open new outdoor play area
South Lakeland MP Tim Farron will be visiting Crosscrake Primary School tomorrow to celebrate the opening of a new outdoor play area as part of the RBS Supergrounds Award Programme.
The RBS Supergrounds Award programme is a £6 million initiative funded by the RBS Group and managed nationally by Learning Through Landscapes, the UK's only charity working to support schools and early years settings to improve outdoor learning and play.
Crosscrake School wanted to provide their children with an exciting natural environment for outdoor classroom work and play. The school has created a beautiful woodland area by extending a tree and shrub covered corner of their grounds - and linking it to a wildlife and pond area - which local parents recently helped to repair. Crosscrake pupils also helped to prepare and plant the wildflower meadow area.
The Supergrounds opening will be celebrated as part of Crosscrake's 150th anniversary celebrations in 2009
Commenting Mr Farron said:
"I'm delighted to have been asked to celebrate the opening of a new outdoor play area at Crosscrake Primary School as part of the 150th anniversary.
"The Supergrounds programme is a fantastic project which allows children to take a central role in shaping their new outdoor learning and play environments and I'm very excited to see what the children at Crosscrake School have achieved."
