Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron is backing local artists' bid to cover Kendal Castle in poppies to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion.

Two local artists, Andrew Charles and Steve Messam, have joined forces to design and support the plans, which would see Kendal Castle adorned with poppies for the period of a month, from November 5th to December 5th.

The local project recently received a boost, after South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) approved the local project. But, Tim has urged English Heritage to give their permission to the plans, as Kendal Castle is a listed building.

Commenting today, Tim said: "This is such a wonderful idea and it's great that SLDC have shown their support for this local project. The project has gained considerable support through social network sites, which shows that the whole community is coming together to support this bid."

"I have urged English Heritage to support this fantastic project that the community has taken to their hearts, particularly as it would be such a touching mark of respect on this special anniversary for the Royal British Legion."
