Farron urges connection improvements for Oxenholme

17 Oct 2007

Local MP Tim Farron pressed Robin Etherington, Communications Manager from the First Rail Group on improving connections from Oxenholme to Windermere in a meeting in the House of Commons today. At present many passengers disembark at Oxenholme only to see the connection to Windermere disappearing into the distance, Mr Farron received assurances that this issue would be looked into.

Tim also urged Mr Etherington to take action to help provide disabled access and parking at Arnside station, which at present requires disabled people to travel north in order to catch a southbound service from Grange, a station which is disabled accessible, all because of the inaccessibility of the southbound platform.

After the meeting, Mr Farron said:

"The issue of connections at Oxenholme to Windermere can cause huge frustration as only a small delay for passengers might force them to miss the connecting service.

"I also asked that station improvements at Arnside are pushed for, it's unacceptable in this day and age that a railway station in such a beautiful location is inaccessible to a significant number of local people."
