Farron to get round table with university vice-chancellor

10 Dec 2009

South Lakes MP Tim Farron will meet University of Cumbria vice-chancellor Peter McCaffery on Monday afternoon just 48 hours before a crucial university academic board meeting which will decide the fate of Ambleside's university campus.

In advance of Monday's meeting, Tim has challenged Peter McCaffery to work with him to help save Ambleside campus, and listen to the overwhelming opposition to the proposed closure from students and the local community.

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Tim said, "I have asked Peter to bring enough information to the meeting to enable myself and the rest of Cumbria's MPs to suggest alternative solutions to the closure of Ambleside campus. The university has consistently avoided opening their books and showing us the rationale for this decision. I believe the South Lakes deserves so much better from the University of Cumbria but even at this late stage if the commitment is from the vice-chancellor we can save the site if they remove the threat of imminent closure."
