Farron to chair public meeting on plans for new health centre in Sedbergh
South Lakeland MP Tim Farron will be chairing a public meeting in Sedbergh tonight to discuss plans to build a new health centre in Sedbergh. Mr Farron has previously been involved in bringing together all sides after the proposal was turned down by the Yorkshire Dales National Park. In January, Tim brought together doctors, planners and local councillors to help resolve the dispute. An improved new proposal has been submitted by the doctors, but the National Park has yet to schedule a meeting to consider it.
Commenting Mr Farron said:
"I'm delighted to have been asked to chair tonight's public meeting about what is a crucial local issue. A new health centre for Sedbergh is essential and I am concerned that if we don't make progress, then we may risk losing the funding. Nevertheless it is vital that the whole community feel able to support the proposal.
"From the discussions I've had with local people, the majority of residents are clearly supportive of the project and appreciate how important its development will be for the local community.
"It's important that we now start to take the project forward and push past the barriers that have so far slowed down its progress. I'm confident that tonight's public meeting will go someway to achieving a consensus and allow us to move on to the next stage toward getting a new health centre built in Sedbergh."
