Farron thanks KL Coaches, Cllr McCreesh & residents for saving Hallgarth bus
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the announcement that the 44 bus route through Hallgarth is no longer under threat of closure. Tim thanked the local campaigners, Kirkby Lonsdale Coaches and Councillor John McCreesh for their work in saving the route.
Hallgarth residents who rely on the 44 bus said it was a lifeline for them. Today it was announced that Kirkby Lonsdale Coaches will continue to run the service, albeit on a profit basis rather than it being subsidised.
Tim said: "I want to thank the residents of the estate for their campaign. Their opposition to losing this route made a massive difference. I want to thank Kirkby Lonsdale Coaches for working with the community and keeping the service running and I also want to thank John McCreesh for all his work behind the scenes.
"I was pleased to play a small role in working to support them. I know that this announcement will be seen as an early Christmas present for many of Hallgarth's residents, as the bus service is a lifeline for many people on the estate."
Kendal Town Councillor Matthew Severn added: "It's fantastic that this vital community service has been saved. Local residents can keep using the bus, safe in the knowledge that their local team are backing them all the way."
