Farron takes local dementia fight to Parliament
Local MP Tim Farron today spoke out in Parliament in defence of people in Cumbria living with dementia. Speaking in the debate this afternoon Tim raised the fact that while an additional £1.5million has been given to NHS Cumbria to support people with dementia and their carers, there was as yet no tangible evidence of additional services being provided with that money.
Tim said 'the additional money provided must not simply be swallowed by existing budgets - it must be used to fund new services such as memory clinics and respite and support for carers'
Tim, who is the vice chair of the all party group on dementia, met last week with South Lakes Alzheimer's Society to discuss this very problem. Tim has joined forces with the society to fight for new services for the thousands of local people affected by dementia.
