FARRON SUPPORTS SCHEME TO IMPROVE WATER QUALITY
Cumbrian MP Tim Farron is supporting a new river monitoring system which will benefit both farmers and locals.
Ten river monitoring stations have been installed on the River Eden to help improve water quality. The system has been set up by researchers as part of a national project, the Defra-funded Eden Demonstration Test Catchment (EdenDTC).
The system, which collects data on water quality, helps researchers tests the effects farming can have on water could also help reduce agricultural pollution.
Tim said: "The system will help us now and in the future. Being able to collect such data is valuable as having a high quality of water in the area is so important. The system is definitely a step in the right direction towards helping farmers."
