Farron supports plans for new Auction Mart site

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has come out in support of plans for the move from Kendal to a site at Junction 36 of the M6.

The Auction mart company are currently trying to find a way to relocate Kendal's mart from its cramped Appleby Road location. Plans for a new one-stop farming auction site at Crooklands were rejected by South Lakeland District Council planners in April.

Commenting today Tim said: "The South Lakes needs to have an auction mart and I am keen to support plans to move it to near Junction 36. This will deal with the traffic issues that plagued the previous proposal in Crooklands. Dozens of new affordable homes could be built on the old site to help local families if the new site gets through.

So I hope planners will say yes to the development. We need them to see the value in this and realise if we continue to dither we keep the auction mart at it's current location and in future threaten it's existence in the South Lakes."
