Farron Speaks At White Noise Festival
Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron took part in a panel debate today at the White Noise Festival, an innovative new festival in Kendal organised by and for young people.
The panel debate was chaired by local councillor and Chair of SLDC Sylvia Emmott, and featured a variety of local politicians from different parties and different levels of government.
Questions ranged from international issues such as the refugee crisis and climate change, through to more local concerns such as fixing Cumbria's infrastructure after the storms and the provision of local services. There were also a number of questions which focused on issues directly affecting young people, such as votes at 16 and opportunities for young people.
The two-day event will run from 5-6th February, featuring music, poetry, theatre and more, and is based at Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre. Organisers say the aim of the festival is to 'inspire young people, to reflect on or question the world around them and have the confidence to pursue options and ideas that are important to them'. High energy dance act the Dub Pistols will headline the festival on the Saturday night.
Tim said: "This was a great event, which showcased just how wrong it is when people say that 'young people don't care'. We had a room full of young people who care about the world around them and the communities they're growing up in, and who asked thoughtful questions on a range of issues.
"My congratulations go to all those who helped to organise this festival - it's a fantastic mix of different events and I'm sure that all who attend will have a great time."
