South Lakes MP Tim Farron has invited people from around the UK to "come and visit Cumbria" on the eve of English Tourism Week 2013.

English Tourism Week runs from the 16th to the 24th of March and is a week-long celebration of events showcasing the quality and vibrancy of England's visitor experiences and the value of its tourism industry.

Cumbria's visitor economy continues to make significant contribution to the broader Cumbrian economy, providing at least 32,000 jobs (FTE's) and £2bn of expenditure annually.

Tim said: "I am saying to people to come and visit Cumbria. We have fantastic attractions, unique hospitality and breathtaking scenery.

"I have consistently called for a new deal for our tourism sector - and the deal is this: if the Government will give us £10 million a year to boost Cumbria's tourism, then we will guarantee to increase the revenue to the exchequer by £50 million as a result of that investment."
