Farron – Rail fares rise another kick in the teeth for South Lakes commuters

5 Dec 2017

Commenting on today's news that rail fares are set for their biggest increase in the last five years, South Lakes MP Tim Farron said:

"Hard working commuters in the South Lakes are learning the news that they are facing yet another big hike on their travel costs.

"It really is a kick in the teeth to those who pay a great deal of their hard-earned money each year to get on a train, which is often running late, in poor condition, and overcrowded.

"The train staff do a wonderful job, but are being let down by the government who time and time again continue to starve rural areas like ours of badly needed investment.

"The Government could do more to help hard pressed fare-payers, but is simply choosing not to."
