Farron pulls together people for meeting to plan the future of the auction mart

14 Apr 2010

Tim Farron will be chairing a meeting on Thursday looking to thrash out the future for the local auction mart and to make sure we keep it in the South Lakes.

Tim has invited the National Farmers Union, local farming leaders, council planners and auction mart management to sit round the table and plan the future of the mart after the recent proposed move out of Kendal was rejected.

The mart currently based in Kendal provides a major focal point for the farming community in the South Lakes and North Lancashire. If a site cannot be found in South Lakeland there are fears within the farming community the auction mart might move to Lancashire leaving our area without a mart for sale of livestock.

Tim Farron said:

"On Thursday I'm pulling everyone together to thrash out a plan for the future of the auction mart. I'm committed to keeping the auction mart in the South Lakes and making sure that the local farming community keep this vital service on our doorstep."
