Farron proposes ?Home on the Farm? to Housing Minister
Local MP Tim Farron spoke in parliament today in a debate on housing infrastructure in the UK and presented the case for his ?home on the farm? plan, which would ease the problems of insufficient affordable housing. Mr Farron?s idea would see underused and disused farm buildings converted into affordable homes for local people and would give local authorities the power to take the initiative in addressing the problem.
During the debate, Mr Farron said:
?We are in desperate need of affordable housing in our area, the average house price is ?250k while the average wage is around ?17k. My Home on the Farm idea would see housing built where infrastructure already exists.
?Thirty per-cent of young people in South Lakeland leave the area and never come back because they are unable to get on the housing ladder, we need to address this urgently.?
