Tim Farron has praised the emergency services after four people were rescued from the mud in Arnside today with the tide coming in.

Emergency services including police, paramedics and the coastguard, as well as Bay Search and Rescue, all rushed to the scene to rescue a man, woman and two teenagers who had become trapped.

Tim said: "I'd like to thank all the emergency services for their outstanding professionalism and their bravery. They put themselves in harm's way to secure the safety of others, and we are all incredibly grateful to them.

"This is a reminder of how dangerous this area can be. I'd urge anyone visiting the Bay to look up the times of the tides and to make sure they are aware of the dangers beforehand."
