Farron praises community spirit in battle to save Leven Valley Post Office
Local MP Tim Farron has praised the spirit of the members of the Leven Valley community who attended a recent meeting to save their post office in great numbers despite the dispersed nature of their community. The meeting, chaired by Clive Leal and Debbie Harte, - who between them run the post office - was held in response to the news that Leven Valley Post Office had been earmarked for closure and replacement with an inadequate 'outreach' service. Nearly 250 people attended the meeting to back the campaign against closure.
Commenting, Mr Farron said:
"It is absolutely fantastic that a community as dispersed as Leven Valley can get together in such numbers to support their local post office. It just goes to show that the community spirit is alive and well in our area.
"I am very proud to represent an area which has such a great determination to stand up for its future. Post Office Ltd must now listen to their calls and remove the threat of closure from Leven Valley Post Office. I hope that all the residents at the meeting will write to PO Ltd and PostWatch to show that they use the branch, and to undermine the very weak arguments that Post Office Ltd have cited in support of closure!"
