Farron plants for the future
Local MP Tim Farron today planted a tree in Staveley as part of an ongoing project in the South Lakes to help off-set the emissions of the Wheels to Work scheme which provides transport solutions to individuals struggling to find work opportunities.
The scheme has been particularly successful for people living in rural communities who find it difficult to access employment and educational opportunities due to the lack of available transport.
Cumbria Wheels 2 Work is a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) which loans scooters to individuals living in Cumbria who find it difficult to get to work because of lack of available transport. To receive a three month loan, individuals must pay a weekly contribution and provide a plan outlining how they intend to obtain their own transport at the end of the loan period.
Commenting Mr Farron said:
"This project is fantastic for the community, as it encourages young people to take a real interest in protecting the environment.
"But it's also a vital part of the Wheels to Work scheme, which helps young people in rural areas find work and educational opportunities by providing them with workable transport solutions."
