Farron: Ofcom ruling reflects neglect of rural areas

29 Nov 2016

Commenting on today's Ofcom ruling ordering the separation of BT from its Openreach division, Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said:

"Today's decision was brought about by BT ignoring not only the regulator but also rural communities.

"Throughout rural Britain, BT have been pocketing subsidies whilst failing to connect those communities with even the slowest speeds and then actively undermining community groups seeking to fill the gap.

"We have had enough of shoddy service, BT's feeble excuses and abuse of monopoly power and terrible broadband. Enough is enough.

"I hope this action will mean that rural areas like South Lakeland will now start to get the broadband we need and deserve."
