Tim Farron MP meets Youth Volunteers at Kendal Town Hall

South Lakes MP Tim Farron met last week in Kendal with youth volunteers participating in the National Citizen Service scheme.

Tim met around 40 young people taking part in the programme. The 16 and 17 year olds were in the third week of the programme, focusing on social action in the community. Tim spoke to them about how and why he became involved in politics, and the difference that it can make to different communities. He then took a Q&A session about both local and national issues.

The three-week scheme aims to develop young people's skills and independence. It includes an outward bound residential as well as a focus on community action and independent living skills.

Tim said: "It is fantastic to see so many young people participating in this scheme, contributing to their communities and gaining greater independence through new life skills. It was clear from the Q&A that the young people all care deeply about where they live and about their futures. They were a credit to themselves and through the National Citizen Service scheme will make a positive difference to their communities."
