Farron meets with Highways officials to discuss problems at Plumgarths

4 Apr 2012

South Lakes MP, Tim Farron, this morning met with Highways engineers and local business owners to discuss the impact on businesses of the ongoing road works at Plumgarths roundabout on the A591.

The road works, which are due to pick up again after the Easter break on Monday 16th April for 2 weeks, have caused considerable problems with many people taking a 10 mile detour to get to Plumgarths. Unsuprisingly there has been a reduction in visitors to local shops and businesses causing a temporary and unnecessary downturn for local businesses.

At the meeting it was agreed that the County Council would aim to improve consultation with the local businesses. Tim is also working with businesses to propose better signage to boost trade at Plumgarths.

Commenting Tim said: "It is extremely unfortunately that the impact of these road works on local businesses in the Plumgarth area has been so negative. Businesses should have been better consulted beforehand so that they could have prepared for this difficult time. I am pleased that there is agreement on seeking to improve signage to boost local businesses and I will be working hard to make sure that this now comes to pass."
