Farron meets local tourism leaders
South Lakes MP Tim Farron met with local tourism industry leaders at a meeting of the Lake District Hotels Association on Friday. Tim gave a short speech before taking part in a Q&A about the challenges facing the industry.
The Lake District Hotels Association's event took place at Kendal College. Many of the questions focused on the issues of business rates and tackling flooding across the area.
Tim said: "It was great to meet local leaders from the tourism and hospitality sectors. Our area not only has some of the country's most beautiful and spectacular scenery, it also offers world-class hotels and hospitality. We had a good discussion about a wide range of issues, from the need for proper business rate reform to support small and medium-sized businesses through to the need for action to protect our area from flooding.
"I'd like to thank the Lake District Hotel Association for their work promoting the local tourist industry, which helps to provide jobs and investment in our area. It was also fitting to have held this event at Kendal College, which has helped to train so many talented young chefs and other hospitality staff who are now working in the local tourist industry."
