Farron judges Primary Pupil Political Challenge
Local MP Tim Farron joined primary school pupils from across Kendal on Friday to act as a judge for the Primary Political Challenge. The event was organised by 6th Form pupils at Queen Katherine School, and saw teams from 6 primary schools give presentations on pressing political questions.
The pupils were in groups of up to four, and were tasked with producing a presentation on a topic related to healthcare or the environment. The pupils presented their answers in a variety of ways including song, powerpoint presentation and roleplay.
Tim helped to judge the presentations alongside Patrick Willink, Chief technology Officer at James Cropper, which had sponsored the event. The pupils' presentations were judged on content, creativity, delivery and teamwork.
Although it was incredibly close between all the groups, the joint winners were students from Castle Park School and St Thomas's CE Primary School. The other schools which participated were Heron Hill Primary School, Stramongate School, Vicarage Park C of E Primary School and Crossthwaite Church of England Primary School.
Tim said: "Every single group that presented was hugely impressive, tackling difficult questions in a creative and thoughtful way. It was incredibly difficult to choose between the groups because the standard was so high, and in the end we had to narrow it down to two groups as the joint winners. I'd like to congratulate all the pupils that took part - they were a credit to themselves and their schools.
"I'd like to thank the students at QKS for organising this event and mentoring the pupils. They did an excellent job! The event will not only have encouraged the primary school pupils to reflect on these political questions, it will also have helped to boost their confidence and presentation skills. I am also grateful to James Cropper for sponsoring the project."
The QKS 6th Form pupils who helped to organise the event were: Sophie Dawson, Megan Jones, Katie Waine, Meghan Fairman, Chloe Barker, Steven Wilson, Luke Mallinson, Josie Hardy and Mary Shiels.
