Farron judges hospital Bake-Off
Local MP Tim Farron was the judge for 'The Great Macular Bake-Off' held at Westmorland General Hospital to help raise funds for the eye unit.
The Bake-Off pitted 34 participants against each other, with Tim judging a wide selection of cakes and savoury goods.
The Bake-Off marked the launch of a £100k fundraising effort for the Westmorland General Hospital Ophthalmology Unit.
There are also plans for staff to enter two sponsored teams in the NHS triathlon in June as well as to carry out activities to mark Macular Week at the end of June. They are also hoping for donations to the unit.
Tim said: "It was fantastic to go along and judge the Bake-Off competition at the Westmorland General Hospital. It was a tough job sampling all 28 cakes in half an hour, but someone had to do it! Thankfully the standard of the cakes and savoury goods was excellent!
"This was a great event, but there was also an important point behind it - to raise money for the hospital's eye unit. The fundraising efforts are now well and truly underway, and I hope local people will be generous in supporting this important cause. The Ophthalmology Unit provides a vital service, and means that local residents don't have to face journeys to Blackpool, Liverpool or Manchester to get treatment."
