South Lakeland MP Tim Farron joined volunteers on Friday to help fix a footpath above Grasmere, to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the 'Fix the Fells' volunteers. Tim has put down a formal motion in parliament to thank all volunteers who have contributed to the programme.

'Fix the Fells' is a partnership programme which brings together volunteers with a wide range of other organisations involved in looking after and promoting the Lake District. The aim is to protect the spectacular Lakeland fells from erosion and damage by both repairing and maintaining the upland paths of the Lake District.

Tim has put down a motion in parliament to formally congratulate the Fix the Fells project on its 10-year anniversary and thank the volunteers who have given up their time to do this.

Tim said: "We live in one of the most beautiful parts of our country with amazing walks and stunning scenery. However, it takes a lot of effort to keep the fells in good condition and to maintain the paths that we all use and enjoy. This 10 year anniversary is a reminder and celebration of the fantastic work of all those volunteers whose hours of dedicated hard work helps to keep our area looking the way it does. I'd like to thank all the volunteers who have worked on the Fix the Fells project over the last ten years - it is their commitment that allows the rest of to enjoy these paths and protects our beautiful landscape."

The full text of the motion Tim put down in parliament is as follows:

That this House congratulates the Fix the Fells project on its 10 year anniversary; acknowledges the enormous difference this project has made to the Lake District Fells, helping to maintain the footpaths in good condition so they can be enjoyed by all; and thanks all volunteers whose dedicated hard work has contributed to the success of this project and helps to protect our beautiful rural landscape.
