Farron issues rallying call to save under-threat post offices

20 Nov 2007

Local MP Tim Farron is today issuing a petition to each of the 43 under-threat post offices in his constituency, as part of his campaign against the Government's planned raft of post office closures. Mr Farron is also urging local people to write to him regarding their local post office which he will then pass on to the regional Post Office Limited representative. It is hoped that this will show how much local people in the area use their post office.

Mr Farron recently wrote to the Chief Executive of Post Office Limited, Adam Crozier requesting official acknowledgement of the at-risk status of all post offices in his constituency, and has tabled a parliamentary motion requesting a moratorium on post office closures until the local communities are empowered by the Sustainable Communities Act.

Mr Farron said:

"I know how vital the post office is to so many of our communities, and this is your opportunity to show how important it is to you. The powers that be can't go on ignoring public opinion in this way.

"I am urging people to write to me explaining exactly why their post office is so important to them, and hopefully Post Office Limited will sit up and take note of the strength of feeling."
