South Lakeland MP Tim Farron teamed up with a bevy of MPs and Members of the House of Lords to finish seventh in the Westminster Mile for Sport Relief in a time of 6minutes and 45 seconds.

More than 30 Parliamentarians, including Minister for Sport Gerry Sutcliffe turned out last Wednesday to swap their suits for shorts, trainers and Sport Relief Socks to test their sporting prowess in St James's Park. They were joined by former England Rugby player Kyran Bracken who helped spur them on to the finishing line.

The MPs and Peers put all rivalry aside to call on the rest of the nation to sign up for the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 21st March. Tim will also be participating in the 'Windermere Millerground Mile' at lakesleisure in Windermereon Sunday 21 March starting at 12 noon. There are three distances available to participants. Tim has chosen to do the longest race, which is six miles. People can sponsor Tim at http://www.mysportrelief.com/timfarron

Commenting Mr Farron said:

"Sport Relief is a great cause and I hope this will raise the profile of events taking place up and down the country.

"I was really pushing myself towards the end of the race but the aim of the day though was to increase publicity and raise the profile of Sport Relief."

Kyran Bracken said: "MPs are usually found running for election so it was nice to see them running for a different reason! It's been brilliant to see our politicians sweating it out for Sport Relief, so I'd encourage everyone to follow their lead and sign up to do their own Mile now at sportrelief.com.
